Benzini Campers Terms & Conditions
When completing a reservation with Benzini Campers AS, the Renter confirms that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms and Conditions.
These Terms and Conditions, together with the booking confirmation, rental agreement and any separately agreed written terms, constitute the rental agreement between Benzini Campers AS and the Renter. In the event of a conflict, the specific terms agreed in writing for the individual rental shall prevail.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits any mandatory rights the Renter may have under applicable law.
1. DEFINITIONS
Benzini Campers AS: The company renting out the Vehicle.
The Renter: The person named in the rental agreement who enters into the rental agreement with Benzini Campers AS and receives the Vehicle for use.
The Driver: The Renter and/or any additional driver approved and registered by Benzini Campers AS.
The Vehicle: Any campervan, car, trailer or motorbike rented out by Benzini Campers AS.
The Agreement: The rental agreement concluded between Benzini Campers AS and the Renter, consisting of these Terms and Conditions, the booking confirmation, the rental agreement and any other written terms expressly agreed between the parties.
The Rental Period: The period from the agreed time of vehicle handover until the agreed return time.
Additional Driver: A person expressly approved and registered by Benzini Campers AS as an additional driver.
2. RESERVATION AND BOOKING
Binding reservation: A reservation becomes binding when Benzini Campers AS has received the required booking payment and confirmed the reservation.
Renter’s information: The Renter is responsible for ensuring that all information provided during booking is correct, including driver age, driving licence category, number of passengers, pets and travel dates. The Renter must promptly inform Benzini Campers AS of any change.
Vehicle availability: Benzini Campers AS makes reasonable efforts to provide the specific Vehicle reserved. If it becomes unavailable due to mechanical failure, accident, theft, damage, delayed return or other circumstances beyond Benzini Campers AS’s reasonable control, Benzini Campers AS may offer a Vehicle of the same or a comparable category where reasonably possible.
3. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
Age: The driver must be at least 19 years old* on the day the rental agreement is signed. A young driver fee of NOK 150 per day including VAT applies to drivers aged 25 or younger. *Minimum age: 25 for City Campers and 24 for motorbike rentals.
Driving licence:
- The Driver must hold a valid driving licence permitting them to operate the Vehicle.
- Where a licence is not in the Latin alphabet or does not include a photograph, an International Driving Permit must be presented where required.
- Digital driving licences are not accepted.
- The Driver must have held the relevant licence category for at least one year, unless Benzini Campers AS agrees otherwise in writing.
Additional drivers: Only the Renter and Additional Drivers registered and approved by Benzini Campers AS may drive. The Renter is responsible for ensuring that every Additional Driver complies with these Terms and Conditions.
Prohibited drivers:
- The Vehicle may not be driven by anyone who does not meet the driver requirements;
- is under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, medication or another substance that impairs driving;
- holds only a learner’s permit or probationary licence;
- holds a driving licence for less than one year;
- is physically or mentally unable to drive safely;
- or has not been authorised under the Agreement.
4. DRIVER ELIGIBILITY AND SAFE OPERATION
Safe operation: The Renter must use the Vehicle prudently, carefully and only for its intended purpose. Benzini Campers AS may refuse handover or terminate the rental where the Driver is reasonably unable to demonstrate that they can operate the Vehicle safely and legally.
Examples: This may include inability to operate the transmission, clutch, brakes, steering or other essential controls; repeated stalling; difficulty selecting gears; inability to manoeuvre or park safely; unsafe operation; or other conduct creating a significant risk to the Driver, passengers, Vehicle or other road users.
Consequences: Where handover is refused, or the rental is terminated for reasons attributable to the Driver’s inability or unwillingness to operate the Vehicle safely, the Renter will not normally be entitled to a refund for the unused rental period, subject to mandatory rights under applicable law. Benzini Campers AS may recover the Vehicle where the Renter materially breaches the Agreement or applicable law, in accordance with applicable law.
5. USE OF THE VEHICLE
Legal compliance: The Renter must comply with all applicable traffic, parking, environmental and other laws throughout the Rental Period and is responsible for the Vehicle during that period.
Mileage: There is no mileage limit. If the Renter drives north of Trondheim, including to Lofoten, and the total booking is shorter than 12 days, a surcharge of NOK 4,900 including VAT applies.
Driving abroad: Driving outside Norway is permitted only in Sweden, Denmark and Finland and only with prior written approval from Benzini Campers AS. The Renter must obtain approval before crossing the border and comply with all applicable foreign laws, tolls and environmental requirements. Travel to other countries is prohibited unless expressly approved in writing.
6. PROHIBITED USE
General restrictions:
- The Vehicle must not be used to carry more people than permitted by its registration certificate or technical specifications;
- for racing, competitions or driver training;
- for towing;
- for off-road driving, on beaches, riverbeds or terrain where vehicle traffic is prohibited;
- to transport hazardous or illegal substances;
- for commercial transportation or subletting;
- to carry animals without prior written approval;
- to modify or repair the Vehicle and its parts without approval;
- to carry loads exceeding permitted weight or compromising safe operation.
Unsealed roads: Unsealed roads, including gravel or dirt roads, may be used only where suitable for the specific Vehicle and where driving is lawful and reasonable. Driving on unsuitable roads or terrain, or using the Vehicle in a way that causes damage, may make the Renter liable for resulting damage to the extent permitted by applicable insurance terms and law. Roadside assistance or recovery may not be available on unsuitable roads; additional recovery costs caused by the Renter’s use may be charged.
7. CAMPER-SPECIFIC SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Equipment: The Renter must follow all instructions for the Vehicle and camping equipment.
- The pop-up roof must be fully lowered and secured before driving;
- the awning must be retracted before driving and whenever the Vehicle is unattended;
- the awning must be at all times secured to the ground with equipment provided;
- the electric step must be retracted before driving;
- doors, windows, roof vents and external openings must be secured as appropriate.
The Renter must not stand or place loads on parts not designed for such use (armrests, tables, etc.), drive through potentially hazardous floodwater (heater may be installed on the bottom of the Vehicle), or misuse gas, electricity, heating, water or waste systems.
8. CHILDREN AND PASSENGERS
Vehicle suitability: The Renter is responsible for ensuring that the selected Vehicle is legally and practically suitable for the intended passengers. Benzini Campers AS recommends confirming seating arrangements and child-seat compatibility before booking.
Child seats: The Renter is responsible for selecting and correctly installing child seats or boosters and using them in accordance with applicable law and the manufacturer’s instructions. Benzini Campers AS is not responsible for incorrect installation or misuse by the Renter.
Unsuitable vehicle: If the Renter selects a Vehicle that cannot legally or safely accommodate the intended passengers and refuses it at pickup, this may be treated as a cancellation by the Renter.
9. PICK-UP AND RETURN
Ramasser:
- Benzini Campers AS will provide the Vehicle in operating condition with documents and equipment required for the rental, at the agreed location and time.
- Early pick-up is subject to availability and a fee of NOK 125 per additional hour when agreed in advance.
- Pick-up outside the opening hours is subject to a flat fee of NOK 750 and must be agreed in advance, subject to availability.
- If the Renter is late for pickup without prior notice, a fee of NOK 1000 per hour may apply.
Return:
- The Vehicle must be returned to the agreed location, date and time.
- Late drop-off is subject to availability and a fee of NOK 125 per additional hour when agreed in advance.
- Drop-off outside the opening hours is subject to a flat fee of NOK 750 and must be agreed in advance, subject to availability.
- If the Renter is late for return without prior notice, one additional nightly rental charge, calculated at the standard rate applicable for the actual return date(s), not the original booking rate, and a NOK 1500 administrative fee will apply. If a late return materially affects a subsequent reservation, Benzini Campers AS may claim reasonable documented costs directly arising from the delay, to the extent permitted by law.
10. VEHICLE INSPECTION AND CONDITION
Inspection: The Vehicle’s condition will be documented at pickup and/or return, including photographs where appropriate. The Renter should inspect the Vehicle at pickup and report visible damage, missing equipment or malfunction before departure. The Renter must return the Vehicle in substantially the same condition.
Post-return findings: Benzini Campers AS inspects the Vehicle after return. Damage, missing equipment or contamination not reasonably identifiable at return* may be reported afterwards. Where reasonably possible, claims will be notified within 72 hours of return and before the Vehicle is rented to another customer. Photographs, inspection reports, estimates, invoices or other reasonable supporting documentation may be provided.
*If weather conditions, darkness, place and/or time of the return of the Vehicle do not allow Benzini Campers AS to discover the loss of parts of the Vehicle, and/or damage caused to the Vehicle and/or to its parts during the Rental Period, or if it is harder to make such discovery due to dirty condition of the Vehicle, location of the damage and/or initial location of the missing parts.
11. CLEANING
General cleaning: The Vehicle is provided clean and must be returned clean. A final cleaning fee may be charged at the current price published on benzinicampers.com/reservations. The fee covers ordinary final cleaning only, not excessive dirt, stains, bodily fluids, food contamination, smoke or vape odour, pet hair or other professional treatment.
- A prepaid final cleaning fee is non-refundable.
Chemical toilet: The Renter must empty and clean the chemical toilet before return. A fee of NOK 1,500 may be charged if it is returned uncleared or inadequately cleaned.
12. SMOKING AND VAPING
Prohibition: Smoking, vaping and use of electronic cigarettes are strictly prohibited inside the Vehicle. A cleaning/decontamination fee of NOK 5,000 applies where this prohibition is breached. Additional documented costs resulting from smoke or nicotine damage may also be charged where applicable.
13. PETS
Approval and cleaning: Pets are permitted only with prior approval from Benzini Campers AS and must be declared during booking. The Renter must return the Vehicle free from pet hair and other traces of the pet. Professional cleaning or repair costs resulting from pets may be charged if the Vehicle is not returned in the same condition.
14. FUEL AND FLUIDS
Fuel: The Vehicle is normally provided with a full fuel tank and must be returned full. If not, Benzini Campers AS may charge the refuelling cost plus a 25% service fee.
Incorrect fuel: Incorrect fuel use is considered negligent use. The Renter is responsible for reasonable resulting costs, including draining, recovery, repair and related costs.
AdBlue: Some Vehicles use AdBlue. The Renter must refill it when indicated and must not ignore a warning or continue operating the Vehicle where this may cause damage or prevent starting. If failure to refill causes damage, the Renter may be responsible for resulting reasonable repair costs.
Warning lights and fluids: The Renter must monitor warning lights and follow manufacturer and Benzini Campers AS instructions. If an oil, coolant, temperature, brake, engine or other warning indicates a potentially serious problem, the Renter must stop as soon as reasonably safe and contact Benzini Campers AS. Continuing to drive despite a serious warning may make the Renter liable for resulting damage.
15. KEYS
Lost or damaged keys: The Renter is responsible for lost, stolen or damaged keys and costs arising from keys being locked inside the Vehicle. Costs may include replacement, programming, locksmith services, recovery and transportation. These costs are not covered by the standard damage waiver unless expressly stated otherwise.
16. WATER SYSTEM AND CAMPING EQUIPMENT
Water system: Only clean water intended for the Vehicle’s fresh-water system may be added to the fresh-water tank. Adding fuel, wastewater, detergents, chemicals or other unsuitable substances is considered negligent use. Contamination or damage resulting from incorrect use will be charged, including reasonable cleaning, flushing and replacement costs.
Equipment: The Renter must use camping equipment according to the instructions provided and must not dismantle, modify or repair it without prior approval from Benzini Campers AS.
17. DAMAGE, ACCIDENTS, THEFT AND VANDALISM
Immediate notification: The Renter must immediately contact Benzini Campers AS in the event of an accident, collision, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, fire, water damage, damage to the Vehicle or equipment, serious warning light, or any incident reasonably likely to result in a claim.
Evidence and cooperation: The Renter must follow instructions from Benzini Campers AS, insurers, assistance providers and authorities. Where applicable, the Renter must complete an accident report, obtain other parties’ and witnesses’ contact details, take photographs and contact the police where required. The Renter should not admit liability or agree compensation with another party without consulting Benzini Campers AS where reasonably possible.
Failure to comply: Failure to report promptly, cooperate or follow reasonable instructions may affect the damage waiver or result in liability for additional costs to the extent permitted by applicable law and insurance terms. Repairs must not be arranged without prior approval, except where immediate action is reasonably necessary to prevent further damage or ensure safety.
18. MALFUNCTION AND BREAKDOWN
Reporting: Benzini Campers AS maintains its Vehicles and carries out servicing in accordance with applicable requirements. Mechanical or technical failures may nevertheless occur, particularly with older vehicles. The Renter must contact Benzini Campers AS as soon as reasonably possible and follow instructions. The Renter must not continue driving if doing so may cause further damage or create a safety risk.
Renter-caused malfunction: If a malfunction is caused by misuse, negligence, failure to follow instructions, incorrect fuel, failure to refill AdBlue, failure to report a warning or another breach, the Renter may be responsible for resulting reasonable costs.
Assistance and remedies: Roadside assistance and recovery are subject to the selected assistance package. Repairs may be delayed by weekends, public holidays, remote locations, workshop availability or spare-parts shortages. Benzini Campers AS is not responsible for indirect losses such as missed flights, activities, ferries or accommodation. Any refund or other remedy for material loss of rental use caused by a malfunction not attributable to the Renter will be assessed based on the circumstances, duration, severity and applicable law.
19. TYRES AND BATTERIES
Tyres: The Renter must use the Vehicle with reasonable care and maintain appropriate tyre pressure. Damage to tyres, wheels or suspension resulting from impact, improper use, unsuitable surfaces, incorrect tyre pressure or continued driving with a damaged tyre may be charged subject to insurance terms.
Batteries: The Renter must use electrical systems and leisure batteries according to instructions. Damage resulting from misuse, overloading, incorrect connections or unauthorised equipment may be charged.
20. INSURANCE AND DAMAGE WAIVER
Compulsory insurance: The Vehicle is covered by compulsory third-party liability insurance as required by Norwegian law. Damage waiver and assistance products are subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations of the applicable policy or waiver arrangement.
Potential exclusions: The following may be excluded and charged to the Renter to the extent permitted by applicable insurance terms and law:
- damage caused by breach of these Terms and Conditions;
- gross negligence or intentional conduct;
- incorrect fuel or failure to refill AdBlue;
- interior or camping-equipment damage;
- awnings, roof tents, steps, heaters, tanks, bike racks and similar equipment;
- wheels, tyres, suspension, batteries or glass where excluded;
- overhead damage;
- damage caused by prohibited or unsuitable terrain, water, snow, ice, rivers or other unsuitable conditions;
- recovery caused by the Renter becoming stuck, submerging, bogging down or abandoning the Vehicle;
- personal belongings;
- lost, stolen or damaged keys.
Policy priority: This list does not expand or reduce the coverage provided by the applicable insurance policy. In the event of conflict, the applicable policy or waiver terms determine coverage, subject to mandatory law.
21. INSURANCE OPTIONS AND LIABILITY
Assurance de base : Maximum Renter liability/self-risk: NOK 20,000 per incident, subject to applicable terms and exclusions. Security deposit: NOK 20,000. 24/7 roadside assistance is included, subject to an assistance liability of NOK 750 where applicable.
Advanced Insurance: Maximum Renter liability/self-risk: NOK 10,000 per incident, subject to applicable terms and exclusions. Security deposit: NOK 10,000. 24/7 roadside assistance is included.
Peace of Mind Insurance: Maximum Renter liability/self-risk: NOK 5,000 per incident, subject to applicable terms and exclusions. Security deposit: NOK 5,000. 24/7 roadside assistance is included. Peace of Mind also permits one free change of rental dates, subject to availability, up to 24 hours before check-in. If the new rental price is lower, the difference is non-refundable; if higher, the difference must be paid.
- Peace of Mind and cancellation: Changing the rental dates does not reset the cancellation period. If the Renter subsequently cancels the reservation, the applicable refund will be calculated based on whichever rental start date—the original or the rescheduled date—falls earlier. This rule applies regardless of how many times the rental dates have been changed.
22. SECURITY DEPOSIT
Authorisation: A security deposit must be authorised on the Renter’s payment card at pickup. The amount depends on the selected insurance/damage-waiver option. The deposit is normally released within 10 days after return where no outstanding claim or charge exists. Release times may vary depending on the card issuer or payment provider.
Claims: The deposit is normally an authorisation rather than an immediate charge. Where an amount is captured to cover a claim, any remaining amount will be released after the relevant claim has been assessed and resolved.
23. PAYMENT
Payment methods and timing: The rental may be paid by card or bank transfer. All prices are in NOK and include 25% VAT unless otherwise stated. 50% of the total rental amount is required to reserve the Vehicle. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 15 days before the Rental Period starts. If the balance is not paid by the due date, Benzini Campers AS may cancel the reservation after reasonable notice, subject to applicable cancellation terms.
Bank transfers: For bank transfers, the Renter is responsible for bank charges and exchange-rate differences.
24. ROAD TOLLS, FERRIES AND THIRD-PARTY CHARGES
AutoPASS: Vehicles are equipped with AutoPASS devices to collect toll and ferry charges. The Renter is responsible for tolls, ferries and other road-use charges incurred during the Rental Period. Benzini Campers AS will charge the applicable toll/ferry amount plus 25% VAT. A statement will normally be sent within 7 days after return, although charges received from third parties later may be invoiced afterwards.
Own devices: The Renter may not use their own AutoPASS device or agreement in the Vehicle unless agreed in writing. Removing or interfering with the Vehicle’s AutoPASS equipment may result in a NOK 2,500 charge.
25. FINES, PARKING CHARGES AND OTHER THIRD-PARTY CLAIMS
Responsibility: The Renter is responsible for parking fines, speeding fines, private tolls, congestion charges and other charges arising from the Renter’s use during the Rental Period. Where Benzini Campers AS receives a related claim or charge, it may pay the amount where necessary and subsequently charge the Renter.
Administration and disputes: A 25% service fee will be charged for each third-party claim or administrative matter received. This does not prevent the Renter from disputing a charge where there are reasonable grounds. If payment is not received within 14 days of the payment request, a late fee of NOK 100 per week may apply to the extent permitted by law. Unpaid claims may be referred to a collection agency.
26. RETURN OF THE VEHICLE
Return checklist: The Vehicle must be returned at the agreed location, date and time, with the agreed fuel level, all keys and equipment, personal belongings removed, rubbish removed, wastewater and toilet waste disposed of as instructed, and the Vehicle in a reasonably clean condition. The Renter must not leave the Vehicle elsewhere without prior agreement.
27. ADD-ONS AND EQUIPMENT
Availability: Benzini Campers AS may cancel and refund an add-on if it becomes unavailable. Add-ons are subject to availability. Cancellation of add-ons by the Renter follows the same cancellation policy as the reservation unless otherwise stated at booking.
Condition: Add-ons must be returned in substantially the same condition in which they were provided. Cleaning, repair or replacement costs may be charged if an add-on is dirty, damaged or missing. Replacement costs will normally be based on the reasonable cost of an equivalent item.
28. CANCELLATION BY THE RENTER
How to cancel: Cancellation must be submitted by email to booking@benzinicampers.com. Each cancellation is subject to a cancellation fee of NOK 1,500. The cancellation date is the date the request is received by Benzini Campers AS.
31 days or more: A full refund of the rental amount is provided, excluding the NOK 1,500 cancellation fee and any non-refundable third-party transaction fees.
15–30 days: A 50% refund of the rental amount is provided, excluding the NOK 1,500 cancellation fee and any non-refundable third-party transaction fees.
0–14 days: No refund of the rental amount is provided.
Previous date changes: Where rental dates have previously been changed under Peace of Mind Insurance or another date-change arrangement, the cancellation period is calculated according to the earlier of the original rental start date and the rescheduled rental start date. A date change does not create a new cancellation period.
29. NO-SHOW AND FAILURE TO COLLECT
No-show: If the Renter fails to collect the Vehicle at the agreed time without prior agreement, this may be treated as a cancellation/no-show, and the applicable cancellation policy will apply.
Failure to meet requirements: If the Renter arrives without a valid driving licence, required identification, valid payment card, or otherwise fails to meet mandatory rental requirements, Benzini Campers AS may refuse handover, and the booking may be treated as a cancellation by the Renter.
30. CANCELLATION BY BENZINI CAMPERS AS
Reasons: Benzini Campers AS may cancel a reservation where necessary, including due to overbooking; theft; accident or serious damage; mechanical or technical failure; circumstances making the Vehicle unsafe or unlawful to rent; or circumstances beyond its reasonable control (force majeure).
Refund: If Benzini Campers AS cancels and cannot offer a suitable replacement, the Renter will receive a refund of amounts paid for the affected rental, subject to mandatory rights under applicable law.
31. FORCE MAJEURE
Events beyond control: Neither party is responsible for failure or delay caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, extreme weather, war, civil unrest, government restrictions, epidemics or pandemics, strikes, major infrastructure failures or similar events.
Legal remedies and insurance: The parties’ rights regarding refunds, cancellation or other remedies in such circumstances are determined by applicable law and any specific terms agreed for the reservation. Benzini Campers AS strongly recommends suitable travel insurance covering cancellation, interruption, medical expenses, evacuation and other foreseeable travel risks.
32. RESPONSIBLE CAMPING AND WILD CAMPING
Rules: The Renter must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including rules relating to public access, parking and camping. Camping locations must be left in the same or better condition than on arrival. Rubbish, toilet paper, wet wipes and other waste must not be left in nature.
Waste and fire: Chemical toilet and wastewater must be emptied only at appropriate disposal facilities or in accordance with local rules. Open fires may be made only where legally permitted and safe. The Renter must protect water sources and check local restrictions, signs and temporary bans.
33. PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Belongings: The Renter is responsible for personal belongings belonging to them and passengers. Benzini Campers AS is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to belongings left in or attached to the Vehicle, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
34. RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE AND COSTS
Recoverable costs: Where the Renter is liable under these Terms and Conditions, amounts payable may include reasonable and documented costs directly resulting from the Renter’s breach, including repairs, replacement, towing and recovery, storage, cleaning or decontamination, locksmith and key replacement, missing equipment, reasonable administrative costs and other direct costs permitted by law and applicable insurance terms.
Wear and tear; limits: Normal wear and tear is excluded from the Renter’s liability. A liability limit under the selected insurance/damage-waiver package applies only to damage and circumstances covered by that package and may not apply to excluded or separately chargeable items, subject to applicable law and policy terms.
35. DISPUTES AND GOVERNING LAW
Governing law: These Terms and Conditions are governed by Norwegian law, subject to mandatory consumer protection provisions applicable to the Renter.
Disputes: Disputes should first be addressed directly between the Renter and Benzini Campers AS. The Renter retains any mandatory rights to bring a complaint before the relevant Norwegian consumer dispute-resolution body or court.
36. PERSONAL DATA
Processing: Benzini Campers AS processes personal data in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation, including the GDPR and Norwegian data-protection law.
Purposes and legal basis: Personal data may be processed where necessary to enter into and perform the rental agreement, comply with legal obligations, protect the Vehicle and other legitimate interests, or on another lawful basis. Purposes may include booking administration, payment, handover and return, insurance and damage handling, tolls and fines, fraud prevention, legal claims and customer service.
Consent and privacy policy: Where processing requires consent, consent will be requested separately and may be withdrawn in accordance with applicable law. Further information about processing, retention periods and the Renter’s rights is provided in Benzini Campers AS’s Privacy Policy. Acceptance of these Terms and Conditions does not by itself constitute consent to every form of personal-data processing.
37. ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS
Acceptance: By completing a reservation and/or signing the rental agreement, the Renter confirms that they have had an opportunity to read and understand these Terms and Conditions, that information provided to Benzini Campers AS is accurate, and that they will comply with these Terms and Conditions throughout the Rental Period.
Authority: Where the Agreement is signed by one person on behalf of a group, that person confirms that they are authorised to enter into the Agreement and accept these Terms and Conditions on behalf of the Renter named in the Agreement.
